CRICKET LEGEND FOR ANNUAL SPORTING DINNER

FORMER India cricketer Farokh Engineer will be the guest speaker at Burton Albion’s annual Sporting Dinner.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest wicket-keepers to have played the game he will have many stories to tell of his time in the sport when he comes to the Pirelli Stadium on Thursday, November 30.

Born on February 25, 1938, in Mumbai, Farokh Engineer played for the India cricket team from 1961 to 1975 and was known for his excellent wicket-keeping skills and aggressive batting style.

During his cricketing career, he played in 46 Test matches and scored 2,611 runs at an average of 31.08. He also took 66 catches and made 16 stumpings.

He spent eight years playing county cricket for Lancashire where he became a fans’ favourite.

After retiring from cricket, he worked as a cricket commentator and analyst. He was also involved in coaching and mentoring young cricketers. In 2019, he was appointed as the brand ambassador of the T10 League, a professional ten-over cricket league in the United Arab Emirates.

Joining him on the night will be comedian, raconteur and after dinner speaker Ian Irving who has spent 35 years on the circuit, playing to global stars in some of the most prestigious venues around the world.

Host for the evening will be Gary Newbon, a master of TV sports broadcasting, covering seven World Cups, three Olympic Games and everything from greyhound racing to speedway and boxing.

Arrival time for the Sporting Dinner is 7pm with tickets costing £55 per person inclusive of VAT which includes a delicious four-course meal.
