BURTON Albion is delighted to announce that our Annual Sporting Dinner will take place on Thursday, 28 November, with John Beresford MBE as our guest speaker. We are also excited to welcome comedian Josh Daniels, who will be performing at the event.
John Beresford MBE is a former professional footballer with over 400 appearances during an 18-year career, which included spells with Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Southampton. Born on 4 September 1966 in Sheffield, Beresford is a product of the Manchester City Academy and made his debut for the first team in 1983.
Following his time at Manchester City, spells in England with Barnsley and Portsmouth came before the left-back truly made a name for himself in the North East with Newcastle United. During his five-and-a-half years with the Magpies, Beresford was a mainstay in Kevin Keegan’s famous ‘Entertainers’ side that pushed Manchester United all the way in the 1995/96 and 1996/97 Premier League seasons. After making over 150 Premier League appearances, he eventually retired from professional football in the early 2000s.
Since his retirement, John has been recognised for his services to education through his work with the ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ charity, and he was awarded his MBE as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2017. The former footballer has also worked as a TV pundit for ITV Tyne Tees and ESPN, and he has become a sought-after dinner guest due to his natural humour and storytelling from his playing days alongside the likes of Alan Shearer, David Ginola, and Paul Gascoigne.
Joining him on stage will be the charming and sharp-witted comedian Josh Daniels. Known for his ability to guarantee laughs from the moment he walks on stage, Daniels is sure to add an extra layer of entertainment to the evening.
Arrival time for the Sporting Dinner is 7pm with tickets costing £55 per person inclusive of VAT which includes a delicious four-course meal (available to see on the booking form below).
